Hyderabad: The canines that underwent training at the Integrated Intelligence Training Academy are playing a key role in giving vital clues to investigators after an incident, said Principal Secretary (Home) Ravi Gupta here on Saturday.
Participating as a chief guest during the passing out parade of 33 canines and 47 handlers at the academy, he said the trained canines were not only helping police in giving clues after incident pertaining to murders, thefts and others offences but also detecting explosive substances.
He later presented trophies to the canines that excelled during the basic induction course commenced eight months ago.
These canines are now ready to join duty and do what they are best at — sniffing out explosives, narcotics and liquor apart from tracking vital clues at crime spots and assisting the police in investigating cases. They will be divided equally between the Police Departments of Telangana, Goa and other States.
The five breeds of dogs — Labrador, German Shepherd, Belgian Malinois, Golden Retriever and Cocker Spaniel — were trained in sniffing out explosives, narcotics and tracking along with their handlers and assistant handlers.
