Trainee IPS officer arrested in sexual harassment case filed by fellow NPA officer

A trainee IPS officer was arrested in Hyderabad in connection with a sexual harassment case filed by a fellow trainee at the National Police Academy. Police conducted a medical examination before producing him before a court, while the investigation into the allegations continues.

Hyderabad: Trainee IPS officer Uday Krishna Reddy was arrested by the Attapur police on Wednesday, in connection with a sexual harassment case filed by a fellow trainee officer at the National Police Academy (NPA).

According to police sources, he is believed to have surrendered before the police, though an official confirmation was awaited. Following his arrest, he was taken to Osmania General Hospital for a medical examination and is expected to be produced before a court in Rajendranagar for judicial remand.

The arrest comes after recent reports that Uday Krishna Reddy had allegedly attempted suicide and was admitted to a private hospital in SR Nagar, where he received treatment.

The case pertains to a complaint lodged by a 30-year-old married trainee IPS officer from Karnataka, who accused him of repeated sexual harassment and assault. She alleged that he sent obscene messages, forcibly dragged her into a room, assaulted her by pulling her hair, attempted to strangle her, threatened her with a knife, and secretly recorded a private video. She further claimed that he later used the video to blackmail her by sending it to her husband.

Based on the complaint, the Attapur police registered a case under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act. The investigation is continuing.

Meanwhile, an internal inquiry committee of the National Police Academy reportedly examined CCTV footage and other evidence before concluding that the allegations had merit. Following the findings, the academy placed Uday Krishna Reddy under suspension.

Before the alleged suicide attempt, he had posted a WhatsApp status claiming he had done nothing wrong.
