Hyderabad: Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao said Telangana was the only State in the country that was providing special funds to municipalities every month for taking up development works under the Pattana Pragathi programme.

In a video conference with Additional Collectors (Local Bodies), Mayors, Chairpersons and Municipal Commissioners on Thursday, the Minister directed the officials to work towards transforming municipalities in the State into model towns. Telangana government initiated Palle Pragathi and Pattana Pragathi programmes to develop infrastructure in municipalities and corporations, he said. “Let’s work towards achieving the goals set under these ambitious programmes,” the Minister further said.


Effective implementation of these programmes will aid municipalities of Telangana to get recognition at the national level, he said reminding about the awards which were earlier bagged by different municipalities for their work under the Pattana Pragathi programme.

Apart from Pattana Pragathi, the State government set up TUFIDC and was allocating funds to develop infrastructure in the municipalities, the Minister said. He specifically instructed elected public representatives and officials to take additional care towards sanitation, provision of drinking water facilities, electricity and green cover increase in municipalities.

He wanted public representatives and officials to take citizens into confidence as municipal administration works are directly associated with the people. Complete works of integrated vegetable and meat markets and ensure all the pending works are completed as per schedule, he said, adding, “We have appointed a Collector rank official for each local body to monitor development works.”

He directed Additional Collectors to conduct surprise inspections in municipalities and monitor the progress of works. The Minister appreciated municipal officials and public representatives of Karimnagar and Illandu for taking up innovative ways in the works. Special Chief Secretary MAUD Arvind Kumar and CDMA Director N Satyanarayana were also present in the meeting.
