Kumram Bheem Asifabad: A tribal farmer, who was allegedly denied Rythu Bandhu assistance by bank officials, committed suicide by consuming pesticide at Devapur village in Kerameri mandal on Thursday. The incident came to light on Friday.
Kerameri Sub-Inspector E Ramesh said the deceased was identified as Jadhav Rohidas (40), a small farmer belonging to Lambada community in Devapur village.
Rohidas resorted to the drastic step as he was disheartened when he was denied the financial assistance under the Rythu Bandhu scheme. “He availed a crop loan of Rs 62,000 from Telangana Grameena Bank in 2020. He could not repay it due to crop failure. He was depressed when he was allegedly denied the aid of Rs 15,000 under Rythu Bandhu scheme. He began consuming liquor and subsequently ended his life,” Ramesh told Telangana Today.
Sources said the farmer owned three acres of land and cultivated cotton and lentils as interim crops. He is survived by wife and two sons.
Based on a complaint lodged by his brother, Jadhav Eshwar, a case of suspicious death was registered. Investigation is ongoing.
