Adilabad: In a rare instance in the history of ethnic tribes, a youth belonging to Raj Gond tribe wedded his two lovers at Ghanpur village in Utnoor mandal on Monday. He claimed that he married them as he had fallen in love with both the women and wanted to do justice. The incident came to light with the wedding photos going viral on social media platforms.

Veladu Arjun, a degree student, is aspiring to become a government employee. He fell in love with Kanaka Usharani, daughter of his paternal aunt and native of Ghanpur, and Ada Suryakala, daughter of another paternal aunt belonging to neighbouring Shambhuguda village, three years ago. He successfully kept both the affairs a secret.

However, Arjun expressed his desire to marry both Usharani and Suryakala recently and then convinced his parents and family members of the girls. It is learned that he managed to get their approval by citing his intention to do justice to the two. His marriage was solemnised in the presence of elders of his community in a low-key affair at Ghanpur on June 14.

Reportedly, the guests of the ‘historic’ wedding were excited to witness the rare marriage. It is said that the two brides had no qualms and seemed to be happy on marrying the same man. Meanwhile, WhatsApp and Facebook users widely shared the photograph, in which Arjun is seen sitting next to Usharani and Suryakala after tying the knot.

Utnoor DSP Uday Kumar Reddy told Telangana Today that the incident had come to their notice through newspapers and they were taking legal opinion on whether to initiate an action or not. He, however, said that the wedding was not an act of polygamy until one of the two girls or family members lodge a complaint with police.
