Mancherial: Tribals have opposed the handing over of land by the Forest department to the management of Orient Cement Company for its fourth plant at Rottapalli village in Kasipet mandal on Saturday.

The residents of the village, mostly tribals, raised an objection to officials who decided to hand over the lands to the cement manufacturer in exchange for revenue land bought by the cement company at Gatraopelli village. They alleged that the officials were giving the lands by flouting norms meant for protection of rights of tribals over lands.

They submitted a written request to District Forest Officer Shiv Aasheesh Singh requesting him to take steps to stall the process of handing over the land to the cement manufacturer. They declared that they would launch a stir if the land was given to the cement company.

The officials have stopped inspection of the land following the opposition by the residents.
