Hyderabad: The State government is adopting a multi-pronged approach rejuvenation, beautification and development of Musi River at an estimated cost of Rs.16,634 crore, Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao said on Thursday.
“The TRS Government is committed and determined to develop Musi River in a comprehensive manner. To acheive our goal, ensuring flow of treated water, clearing encroachments and beautification works have been proposed,” he said during question hour in the State Assembly here on Thursday.
Stating that all the Musi development works were being executed by R&B, HMWSSB, HMDA and GHMC, the Minister said a project to set up 36 Sewerage Treatment Plants (STPs) at different locations along the river was being taken up at a cost of Rs 3,866 crore and this would be completed by December this year.
“Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao is personally leading all these efforts. We will deliver what we promise,” Rama Rao said, responding to AIMIM MLA Ahmed Bin Abudullah Balala in the House.
The Minister also announced that the government was taking up the second phase of Strategic Road Development Project (SRDP) at a cost of Rs.3,115 crore in all zones of GHMC.
In reply to another question by TRS MLA KP Vivekanand, he said the State government had prepared a total shelf of 70 works costing Rs.37,000 crore. Of these, 47 works were taken up under SRDP in GHMC limits with an outlay of Rs 8,052.92 crore. So far, 27 works costing Rs.2,497.95 crore were completed and 20 works (17 GHMC and three by R&B) were being taken up at a cost of Rs.5,554.97 crore, he said.
“All these works are about leveraging the economy and creating assets for future generations. One does not have to worry about loans as the government will also be generating revenue,” he said.
Average speed of vehicular traffic in Hyderabad over 40 kmph
MAUD Minister K T Rama Rao said the average speed of vehicular traffic in Hyderabad was over 40 kmph against 30 kmph in various cities across the country, and this was possible only due to the road infrastructure developed by the TRS Government in the city.
“Visitors who visit Hyderabad from various cities and from countries abroad to participate in different programmes have appreciated the road infrastructure development in Hyderabad,” said Rama Rao.
Traffic police were levying penalties on motorists for speeding but people are now seeking an increase in the speed limits, he said, adding that the GHMC along with traffic police and transport would conduct a study and finalise the speed limits in the city.
