The voters of the 12 MLC seats pertaining to nine Local Authorities’ Constituencies include MPTC members, ZPTC members, municipal corporators and councillors, largely comprise TRS’ elected representatives. The ruling party has been maintaining an upper hand in the elections to both rural and urban local bodies elections especially after coming to power for second consecutive term in 2018 with an increased mandate from people of the State. The party has increased its hold over the State politics, by improving its presence in all the local bodies.
Among the rural local bodies, around 449 of 538 ZPTC members belong to TRS and all 32 Zilla Parishad chairpersons’ posts have been secured by the party. It also has 431 of 537 Mandal Parishad Presidents’ seats, with 3,571 of total 5,816 MPTC posts in its kitty.
In urban local bodies, the TRS has about 1,679 out of total 2,849 municipal ward member posts and 117 of 125 municipal chairpersons’ posts. Similarly, the party had won all 13 Municipal Mayor posts apart from bagging 333 of 661 municipal corporator posts in different municipal corporations. Of total 142 urban local bodies, the Opposition parties including the Congress and the BJP have been restricted to just eight municipalities of 138 ULBs for which elections were held.
“The party leadership has already commenced the preparations for the MLC polls. Soon after TRS president and Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao finalises the candidatures, we will reach out to all our party elected representatives who are representing MPTCs, ZPTCs, municipal wards and divisions, to consolidate our votes. Necessary instructions will be issued to all our elected representatives to cast their votes without fail. We are also anticipating a few elected representatives from the Opposition parties to support our candidates. We are confident of recording a clean sweep in the upcoming MLC polls,” a TRS general secretary told Telangana Today.
