Hyderabad: The TRS activists along with farmers launched protests against the anti-farmer attitude of the BJP-led Central government in all villages across the State. They took to the streets raising slogans over the Centre’s discrimination on farmers’ issues especially paddy procurement in Telangana and also condemned it’s nonresponsiveness to the State government’s requests on the issue.

As part of the Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s call to staged protests against the Central government’s decision, TRS leaders and workers, farmers and other villagers took out rallies and funeral procession of the Union government as well as BJP with drum beats before burning effigies. They demanded that the Centre procure paddy during the ensuing Yasangi season.

Though the TRS planned to organise the demonstrations from 10 am, farmers in several villages of erstwhile districts of Karimnagar, Nalgonda, Nizamabad, Warangal and Medak voluntarily held protests in the main junctions of respective villages. Demonstrations were held in Chinthakunta of Kathalapur mandal in Jagtial district, Bandalingapur of Rajanna-Sircilla district, Jammikunta of Karimnagar district.

In Nalgonda, the farmers burnt the effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in some villages and near agricultural fields. They also extended their support to the TRS government, which was fighting against the Centre for its decision not to procure parboiled rice from the State for the Yasangi crop season. All the Ministers, MLAs, MLCs and other elected representatives participated in the protests in their respective constituency headquarters.

Meanwhile, a delegation of Ministers and TRS MPs have reached New Delhi to take up the issue of enhancement of paddy procurement for Vaanakalam (Kharif) season from Telangana as the prior target of 60 lakh tonnes paddy would be reached by Monday evening. Nearly 15 lakh tonnes of paddy is still awaiting procurement at market yards and paddy in another five lakh acres are yet to be harvested.
