TRS leader Gundu Sudharani takes oath as Warangal Mayor
Rizwana Shameem (TRS) from 36th ward was also sworn in as Deputy Mayor at a special meeting organised in Warangal.

Warangal Urban: Ruling TRS party corporator from 29th ward Gundu Sudharani took oath as the Mayor of Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) on Friday. Rizwana Shameem (TRS) from 36th ward was also sworn in as Deputy Mayor at a special meeting organised here.
District Additional Collector Sandhyarani presided over the swearing-in ceremony of the corporators, Mayor and Deputy Mayor. While TRS corporator Endla Nageshwar Rao proposed the name of Gundu Sudharani for the Mayor’s post, Paskula Babu endorsed her name.
Of the total 66 corporators, nine are Covid positive and they took oath via virtual video conference from home isolation. In addition to them, MP Pasunuri Dayakar, five MLAs Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar, Nannapuneni Narender, Challa Dharma Reddy, Aruri Ramesh and Thatikonda Rajaiah, also attended the meeting as the ex-officio members.
The election of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor was held by show of hands. Earlier in the day at a special meeting organised here by the TRS, Ministers Gangula Kamalakar, A Indrakaran Reddy and Errabelli Dayakar Rao announced the names of Gundu Sudharani for Mayor and Rizwana Shameem for Deputy Mayor from the sealed covers sent by the party high command and asked all the TRS corporators to support Sudharani and Shameem to ensure unanimous election. They also warned that those who violate the party whip would attract severe action.
While the TRS party won 48 corporators seats, the BJP managed to secure 10 wards, Congress 4 and others 4. GWMC election general observer P Kishan, GWMC Incharge commissioner Satyanarayana and other officials were present at the meeting held at the GWMC council hall. They arrived at the council hall by 2.55 pm, and the Mayor election held around 3.30 pm.

Gundu Sudharani’s profile:
56-year-old Gundu Sudharani, the wife of Gundu Prabhakar, a businessman, served as the Floor Leader in the WMC from 2005 to 2010. She was elected to Rajya Sabha in June 2010 as TDP candidate and also served as Member, Committee on Petroleum and Natural Gas, Member, Committee on Papers Laid on the Table. Sudharani was also a Board Member of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam from 2002 to 2004.
She joined the TRS in 2015 as she was impressed by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s performance. She also worked as the State Women Cooperative Finance Corporation’s Chairperson. Sudharani is a Master of Arts in Public Administration from Madurai Kamaraj University, MaduraI.
