Hyderabad: Several TRS leaders have strongly come out in support of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s suggestion for drafting a new Constitution for the country. They pointed out that numerous amendments were made to the existing Constitution and such a proposal was not new. They stated that rather than taking the suggestion literally, people should take it in spirit and deliberate on the issue to come to a logical conclusion.

Speaking to mediapersons, Telangana State Planning Board vice-chairman B Vinod Kumar said the Opposition parties especially the BJP leaders were making senseless remarks against the Chief Minister’s proposal for a new Constitution, without having any knowledge in this regard. He clarified that the Chief Minister suggested for a new Constitution in the wake of the Modi government suppressing the rights and powers of the States and making budgetary allocations to different States only on the basis of elections.

Vinod reminded that during the previous NDA government, the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee appointed a commission to review the Constitution of India. Earlier, the successive governments at the Centre appointed Justice Rajamannar Commission and Justice Sarkaria Commission to examine certain provisions in the Constitution. “BJP State president Bandi Sanjay has no understanding of the context or the history and yet making such irresponsible statements,” he said.

He stated that the union government was taking unilateral decisions on the river interlinking projects without consulting the States concerned. He demanded to know why the Centre was not issuing permission to the proposed irrigation projects in Telangana, in case of the availability of surplus water in the Godavari River. He alleged that the BJP has become a North Indian party favouring only North Indian States ruled by them.

In a separate press conference at TRS Legislative Party office here, TRS MLC and former Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari stated that the Opposition parties were distorting the Chief Minister’s remarks on the need for a new Constitution and misleading people of the State as well. He reminded that the successive governments led by the Congress, the BJP and other political parties amended the Constitution of India on multiple occasions as per the changing times. He stated that the ruling parties at the Centre were misusing the Constitution to meet their political goals and thus, interfering with the State affairs ignoring the federal spirit of the Constitution.

He said the BJP leaders have no moral rights to speak about the Constitution or Dr BR Ambedkar as they were destroying the spirit of the Constitution of India on all fronts. He stated that Dr Ambedkar was godfather of the TRS which was striving for the upliftment of the poor and the underprivilaged sections, the BJP leaders were heirs of Godse.

Government Whip Balka Suman said while Chief Minister Chandrashekhar Rao suggested for drafting a new Constitution as the objectives of the existing Constitution were not fulfilled, the Opposition parties are behaving as if the Constitution has been changed overnight. He emphasised on the need for a discussion on the issue rather than passing illogical remarks. He pointed out that the mindless BJP government imposed tax on crypto currency without legalising the latter, while its Telangana leaders were incapable for getting the promises made to the State fulfilled.

Meanwhile in New Delhi, TRS Parliamentary party leader K Keshava Rao justified the TRS President’s tirade against the Narendra Modi government, stating that though the Chief Minister’s language was rough, his intentions were clear. He said the Opposition parties who are raising objections for his remarks, should understand his spirit and intentions rather than focusing on the literal meaning.
