Hyderabad: The TRS Parliamentary Party is planning to move a privilege motion against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his remarks on bifurcation of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh and creation of Telangana State. Though the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act was passed as per the rules and regulations of Parliament, they said the Prime Minister’s comments in Rajya Sabha denigrated the formation of Telangana, as well as undermining the Constitution, Parliament, and the Legislature.
Further, the TRS MPs, who staged a demonstration at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi on Parliament premises, demanded that Modi explain how the AP Reorganisation Bill, which was supported by all parties in Parliament, could be unconstitutional and unscientific. They accused the current NDA government at the Centre of passing most of the bills in Parliament without discussion.
Speaking to mediapersons in New Delhi on Wednesday, TRS Parliamentary Party leader K Keshava Rao criticised the Prime Minister for inappropriately mentioning the creation of Telangana State. He said with his statements, the Prime Minister had insulted the people of Telangana and making such comments against the formation of a State after getting consent from Parliament was uncalled for.
“The Bill was introduced in Parliament only after an extensive study of the issue. When any such key Bill is to be voted on, all the members supporting the Bill must be counted. The BJP members also supported the State Reorganisation Bill,” he reminded. He stated that there were prescribed rules and regulations for every situation arising in Parliament while passing a Bill, and by finding fault with the passage of AP Reorganisation Bill, the Prime Minister exposed his lack of knowledge about them.
As both the ruling and the opposition parties supported the Bill, Keshava Rao said there was no question of lack of support for it. The Speaker announced the passage of the Bill upon receiving two-thirds majority support in Parliament and the President gave his consent only after both the Houses approved it. He reminded that the creation of three States during the Vajpayee government was not event-free and some members even tried to attack the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, while the hand of a member got fractured.
TRS Lok Sabha floor leader Nama Nageshwara Rao said the Prime Minister was speaking ill about the State formation without understanding the history and context. He stated that with his remarks, Modi had disrespected the sacrifices made by scores of people of Telangana. He questioned why the BJP government failed to address the pending issues even eight years after the State bifurcation, if the party had any love for Telangana. He demanded to know what the BJP government had done for development of Telangana. TRS MPs Kavitha Maloth, G Ranjith Reddy, Venkatesh Netha and others were present.
