Hyderabad: Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) is gearing up to strengthen the party in the GHMC limits from the grassroots level. As part of its efforts to strengthen the party across the State, the TRS is setting up party committees from 150 division committees and over 1,400 Basthi committees across GHMC. TRS working president and Minister KT Rama Rao will chair the party general body meeting of Hyderabad and Secunderabad at Jalavihar on September 7.

TRS MPs, MLCs, MLAs, chairpersons of various corporations, constituency in-charges, corporators, former corporators, division presidents and others will attend the meeting on Tuesday. The meeting would focus on the appointment of booth, division and city committees to strengthen the party and also review future action plans.

“With 60 lakh members, TRS is the largest political party in the country. The party was formed in 2001 under the leadership of Chief Minister and TRS president K Chandrashekhar Rao, who felt that the development of Telangana was possible only with self-governance. Under his leadership, many developments and welfare programmes have been implemented in the last seven years,” said Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav, who reviewed the arrangements for the meeting at Jalavihar on Sunday.

The Minister said Telangana has become a torchbearer for the entire country in terms of development. Many development programmes like construction of irrigation projects like Kaleswaram and Palamuru-Rangareddy lift irrigation schemes, construction of double bedroom houses for the poor, distribution of financial assistance to farmers under Rythu Bandhu, and Mission Kakatiya to revive irrigation tanks among others, were taken up by the TRS government.

“It is unfortunate that the Opposition parties are criticising the implementation of Telangana Dalit Bandhu which was taken up with the good intention of improving the lives of Dalits who are at the bottom of the strata,” he said. During the TRS general body meeting of Hyderabad and Secunderabad cities, the party committees will be constituted providing more than 51% reservation for the BCs, SCs, STs and minorities. Women also will be given good representation in these committees.

Party sources said it has been decided to strike a balance between the younger generation and experienced leaders of the party in all the committees. The party leadership has set September 20 as the deadline for constituting all the committees including the GHMC unit members.
