Hyderabad: With Prime Minister Narendra Modi announcing that the Centre was repealing the three contentious Farm Laws, the ruling TRS in Telangana has termed it is a great victory for farmers of the country. The party welcomed the Modi government’s decision and was glad that TRS played its role with the recent protests where Chief Minister and TRS President K Chandrashekhar Rao himself had participated in support of farmers in Telangana.

Agriculture Minister S Niranjan Reddy said Prime Minister Modi had finally understood the ground level situation in the country and apologised to the farmers as well as the people of the country for bringing out the contentious laws. “The decision was long pending. Farmers agitation could have been avoided, if they had repealed the laws earlier,” he said. Besides congratulating the farmers who continued their fight notwithstanding extreme weather conditions and other struggles, he paid tributes to farmers who sacrificed their lives in the agitation.

The Minister said in a democracy, the rulers cannot take anything for granted and people’s decision was the ultimate verdict. He was hopeful that the Union government would take into consideration the Maha Dharna and farmers protests organised by TRS in Telangana, and deliver a decision on paddy procurement favourable to farmers in the State. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi is aware of our Chief Minister’s fighting spirit. We are hopeful that the Centre will take a decision on paddy procurement before the farmers agitation intensifies in Telangana,” he added.

TRS President and Minister KT Rama Rao tweeted a quote, stating that, “the power of people is always greater than the people in power” and said it has been proved once again by Indian farmers who got what they demanded through their relentless agitation.

Finance Minister T Harish Rao also lauded the unrelenting fight by the farmers on the borders of Delhi notwithstanding all the difficulties for more than 15 months. He stated that the farmers fought against the bullets, lathis, water canons, wired fencings and also the Union government to achieve this victory. “It is a testament for the fact that people can achieve what they desire, with perseverance and hard work,” he added.

Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy, Panchayat Raj Minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao and other Ministers also were elated over the Centre’s decision. However, they stated that TRS will continue its fight until the Union government agrees to procure paddy from the State.
