Rajanna-Sircilla: Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao came down heavily on BJP State president Bandi Sanjay Kumar for provoking farmers to sow paddy in Yasangi season. In the wake of the Central government’s refusal to procure paddy in Yasangi, the State government instructed officials to educate farmers to avoid the crop in the season. Agriculture Minister Niranjan Reddy had also asked farmers to sow other crops instead of paddy.

However, the BJP State president was provoking ryots to sow paddy in Yasangi. Without giving clarity on the Union government’s stand on procurement of the crop, Bandi Sanjay had asked the farmers to cultivate paddy. Stating that nobody knew the education qualification of the BJP leader, the MA&UD Minister said Bandi Sanjay himself did not know what he would do. Rama Rao wanted a clarification from the BJP leader whether the Central government would purchase paddy in Yasangi or not.

“Except flaring up Hindu and Muslim issues, Bandi Sanjay has done nothing for Sircilla constituency after being elected as MP from Karimnagar constituency,” he said.
Stating that BJP leaders were trying to misguide farmers with an eye on votes, he informed that hereafter, TRS would act as Telangana Rythu Samithi.

In addition to that, a car driven by a Union Minister’s son ran over eight agitating farmers in Uttar Pradesh, he recalled. He warned that BJP would be smashed under the wheels of bullock carts if farmers revolted. Rama Rao made these comments while participating in Rythu Maha Dharna held in Sircilla town on Friday, in protest against the Centre’s decision not to procure paddy in Yasangi season.

While the State government was taking all measures for the benefit of farmers, the Centre was taking anti-farmers decisions. It was the responsibility of the Central government to talk to all States and advise farmers to sow crops depending on the local climate and provide meals to the poor. State governments should send crops to the Centre by procuring them through Civil Supplies and IKP centres. Everything went off smoothly during the last six years. Though there was no problem with Vaanakalam crop, Yasangi crop had become a problem, he said.

Even Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao had personally explained to Union Minister Piyush Goyal about the Yasangi crop. But the Centre was not ready to procure the crop. Rama Rao came down heavily on successive Central governments for doing nothing during the last 75 years.

Stunning facts came to light in the Global Hunger Index survey. India secured 102nd place among the highest hungry countries. Meanwhile, Pakistan got 92nd rank, Bangladesh secured 76th rank. Despite a huge extent of cultivable land, biological rivers flowing in the country and 60,000 tmc of water availability, hunger percentage in India was high, he pointed out. During the Congress regime, farmers used to commit suicides due to lack of benefits in cultivation, he added.

To make agriculture more profitable, the Chief Minister introduced a number of welfare schemes like 24-hour free power supply, Rythu Bandhu, Rythu Bima and others, the Minister said.

The Chief Minister constructed Kaleshwaram lift irrigation Project, which was the biggest multistage project in the world. The Kakatiya era’s glory was also brought back to all tanks in the State through Mission Kakatiya. Farmers felt happy as all tanks in Sircilla overflowed even during mid-summer and dry lands were supplied Godavari water. As a result, Telangana surpassed Punjab in paddy cultivation, he said.
