TS, Chattisgarh top cops meet to discuss on anti-Maoist ops

After a long lull, Maoists increased their activities in Telangana State, particularly in erstwhile Adilalabad, Warangal and Khammam  districts, throwing a challenge to the police

Mulugu: Even as the police of the districts bordering Chattisgarh are continuing with their intensified combing operations in the forest areas following movements of CPI Maoists, a high level meeting was conducted in Venkatapuram mandal of Mulugu district on Sunday to discuss inter-State cooperation between Telangana and Chattisgarh police forces and the Central Armed police forces to check Maoist activities.

After a long lull, Maoists increased their activities in Telangana State, particularly in erstwhile Adilalabad, Warangal and Khammam  districts, throwing a challenge to the police. It is learnt that they are also trying to attract the unemployed youth into the party. Responding to these developments, the police have also intensified their efforts to nip the Maoist activities in the bud.


It may be recalled that the six Maoists were gunned down by the Telangana police. While four Maoists were killed in the Bhadradri Kothagudem in two separate encounters, two Maoists were killed in Asifabad district in recent times.  The Greyhounds, Special Party police and CRPF personnel have been on the job of combing the forests.

Maoists have also stepped up their activities in Chattisgarh too killing several people and including a commander of their own party in recent times.

Keeping all these developments in view, K Vijay Kumar, senior security advisor in Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), AP Maheshwari DG CRPF, M Mahender Reddy, DGP Telangana State, Ashok Juneja, SDG Naxal , Chattisgarh, Prakash ,DIG Ops CRPF, Sunder Raj, DIG Bastar range, Sunil Dutt SP Bhadradri Kothagudem, Sangram Singh Patil, SP Mulugu and other senior officers from state police forces and CRPF participated have attended the meeting held in Venkatapuram mandal discussed the recent  developments and chalked out strategies to  clamp down  the Left Wing Extremist (LWE) activities in both the States.

They have reportedly stressed on the need for more coordination between the police forces of both the States and increasing surveillance and use of the technology in thwarting the Maoist activities.

On July 18 this year, Telangana DGP M Mahender Reddy, Additional DGP Kothakota Srinivas Reddy, IGP Prabhakar Rao, IGP Navin Cahand, North Zone Inspector General Y Nagi Reddy held a review meeting with police personnel of Mulugu and Jayashankar Bhupalpally districts regarding the Maoist activities.
