Hyderabad: The State government on Friday released Rs 48 crore towards providing financial aid of Rs 2,000 and 25 kg rice to teaching and non-teaching staff working in recognised private educational institutions for May. The State government is incurring an expenditure of about Rs 40 crore every month for the purpose.
While Rs 40 crore was released to meet the expenditure for May, an additional Rs 8 crore was released to fill the shortfall during April. The government had released Rs 32 crore earlier in April for the purpose.
Last month, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao announced the financial aid and rice to the staff of recognised private educational institutions in the wake of their closure due to the Covid-19 pandemic. He promised to provide assistance to the teaching and non-teaching staff till the institutions reopen.
While the financial aid is being credited to the bank accounts of about 1.45 lakh teachers and non-teaching staff, the rice is being supplied through ration shops. The Telangana State Civil Supplies Corporation is supplying about 3,625 tonnes of fine variety rice without compromising on the quality.
