Hyderabad: The State government had set 10 targets including digital door numbering and cent per cent drinking water supply to every household, to be achieved in every urban local body over the next one year. Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao said all the 10 targets will be fulfilled in a total 142 urban local bodies including GHMC during the next financial year for which budgetary allocations have been made.
Participating a discussion on the budget demands of Municipal Administration and Urban Development department in the Assembly on Saturday, the Minister said the government will construct at least one integrated vegetable and meat market, a modern Vaikuntadhamam, a mechanised modern dhobi ghat, faecal sludge treatment plant, improve greenary and other development works apart from developing a master plan for every municipality in the State.
“Telangana is one of the fastest urbanising States in the country, with around 46 per cent of its population living in cities and towns. Over next 10 years, the urban population of the State is estimated to be more than 51 per cent. Hence, we are taking up a planned development to meet future needs,” he said.
Accordingly, 148 integrated vegetable and meat markets are being developed in 142 municipalities and Rs 100 crore sanctioned for 182 modern Vaikuntadhamams. About Rs 640 crore will be spent towards development of green cover in urban areas during next fiscal. As per the Forest Survey of India, Hyderabad had recorded 147 per cent increase in its urban green cover from 33.15 sq km in 2011 to 81.81 sq.km in 2021.
About 23.21 lakh households received piped water connections in all urban areas including upgradation of existing connections. Plans are afoot to achieve cent per cent faecal sludge treatment in all urban areas over next one year. “About 2,000 MLD of sewerage is being produced in Hyderabad currently and we intend to become a city with cent per cent sewerage treatment during this financial year. We will also enhance our existing capacity and aim to add a total 56.5 MW capacity of waste to energy plant in Hyderabad during the period,” he added.
Offering citizen-centric governance, Rama Rao informed that the TS-bPASS had simplified the building permission process through a self-certification system where 75,272 instant approvals were given to applicants with a land extent between 75 sq.yards and 600 sq.yards including 19,449 in GHMC limits. He stated that the government was taking up programmes which will have a visible impact in all urban areas.
Since February 2020, a total of Rs 3,206 crore were released to 142 municipalities in the State including Rs 1,646 crore to GHMC alone as part of Pattana Pragathi programme towards development works. Another Rs 3,809 crore were sanctioned through Telangana Urban Finance Infrastructure Development corporation (TUFIDC) for various works.
