Hyderabad: A blood donation camp was organised by the Thalassemia Sickle Cell Society (TSCS) at Kings Palace Function Hall, and 1,955 individuals participated in the programme.
The initiative was supported by Azad Reporter, Mohammed Akram alias Abu Aimal.
The collected blood units will be used to support thalassemia patients, who require transfusions every 15 days. Chandrayangutta MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi extended his support to the cause, while TSCS joint secretary MA Aleem Baig and the society’s staff played an active role in conducting the camp.
Highlighting the need for preventive measures, TSCS appealed to Akbaruddin Owaisi to facilitate the release of a Government Order mandating the antenatal HbA2 test for all pregnant women. This test is crucial in preventing the birth of children with thalassemia.
Dr. Chandrakant Agarwal, president – TSCS, said, the society is thankful to the 1,955 donors who have come forward and donated blood to meet the blood requirement for thalassemia patients. “We are extremely honoured that Chandrayangutta MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi has visited the blood donation camp. We explained to him about the situation of thalassemia in our State and country, and also urged him to encourage the blood donors,” he said.
