Hyderabad: Stocks of anti-fungal medicine ‘Itrozen-100 Capsules’ were seized from a medical shop in Mancherial by drug inspectors of Telangana State Drug Control Administration (TSDCA), for being retailed at more than the fixed ceiling price.

The MRP rates on the drug indicated were significantly higher than the ceiling price fixed for the product under the Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013 by National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (c), the price control regulatory authority.

The antifungal capsules, manufactured by Allcure Remedies LLP, Yamuna Nagar, Haryana, bears an MRP of Rs 245 for 10 capsules on its label, which is a violation of Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013.

The ceiling price fixed by the NPPA for the product is Rs 16.67 for one capsule i.e., Rs 166.7 for 10 capsules. Including GST, the MRP of the anti-fungal medicine should not be more than Rs 187 for 10 capsules. However, the firm charged an excess of Rs 58 for 10 capsules which is a violation of Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013.

The prices of essential medicines should be in accordance with the ceiling prices fixed by the Central Government. Overpricing of essential medicines is a violation under Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013 and stringent action shall be taken as per the law against violators, DG, TSDCA, V B Kamalasan Reddy said.
