Hyderabad: Buoyed by the encouraging increase in cargo services, the TSRTC, as part of its plans to expand the services, is working towards having tie-ups with some airlines.
Under this initiative, TSRTC will deliver the parcels booked by people through airlines to a particular area, particularly if it is far from airports.
Similarly, when a trader or an organisation operating far from airport wants to book a parcel to a Metro city, TSRTC will carry the parcel to the airport and facilitate in booking the parcel. The aim is to provide first and last mile connectivity, said a senior official from TSRTC.
The Corporation, to strengthen its cargo services, opened a booking and delivery counter at Shamshabad airport on Thursday. Through the counter, parcels booked by different agents will be delivered at the airport to be transported to its destination.
TSRTC’s Parcel, Cargo and Courier (PCC) Services have been gaining public patronage and have earned revenue of Rs. 46 crore since the launch of the service on June 19 last year.
The idea of introducing the services by TSRTC was conceived by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao to boost the revenues of the corporation.
Since the launch of these services, as many as 32 lakh parcels have been delivered through RTC services, generating Rs 34 crore. This apart, a revenue of Rs 12 crore was generated through cargo buses operations.
At present, there are 177 counters at RTC bus stations. In addition, there is a service network of 810 agents. A fleet of 150 cargo buses with 10 tonnes and 4 tonnes capacity is being maintained for cargo delivery.
