Hyderabad: Cargo and parcel services introduced by Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) in twin cities have garnered positive response with the demand for transportation of bulk goods has grown significantly.

TSRTC which promises to provide fast, reliable and effective parcel services has recorded delivery of parcels without a single untoward incident and so far, delivered over 12.50 lakh parcels.

Introduced on June 19, 2020, the parcel and courier business has been expanded to 147 bus station locations. At present parcel services are being carried out manually at the counters. Starting last June, an amount of around Rs 12 crore was realised by way of transshipment of over 12.50 lakh parcels.

As per the directions of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao to devise strategies on expanding parcel, courier and cargo services, RTC has been working on improving these services. It would also be expanding services in parcel booking by contacting government departments, non-governmental organisations and private companies.

According to RTC officials, MGBS and JBS bus stations have been involved in dispatching and receiving parcels counters. To ascertain public opinion on home delivery facilities, a survey was conducted for a period of one week both at JBS and MGBS during October 2020.

“During this survey 89.92 per cent of sample size have shown an inclination towards having home delivery facilities and agreed to pay an additional amount. It was revealed that on an average, the parcel receivers are travelling 10 to 15 km from the place of their residence to JBS or MGBS to collect their parcel services,” said a senior official.

Home delivery parcel services:

In order to facilitate parcel receipt services at door-steps to the customers, it has been proposed to provide home delivery parcel services in twin cities initially. In this facility concept, the parcels will be directly delivered to the respective customers.

In this process, on the arrival of parcels at receiver counters in MGBS and JBS, the parcels will be segregated area-wise. The appointed agents will collect parcels either area-wise or PIN code wise for their subsequent handing over to the receivers at their respective doorsteps.

For this purpose, RTC scouted for agents to take up this task of delivering the parcels at the doorsteps of the customers and has finalised three agencies that have experience in-home delivery system.
