HYDERABAD: A high-level meeting on security audit at Tirumala on Thursday stressed on the need to train the security staff on Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear (CBRN) threats, besides anti-sabotage measures, taking up mock drills and evacuation drills at regular intervals.

The meeting was attended by top officials from the Police Department, TTD and security forces, led by DIG (Anantapur Range) Shemushi. The officials discussed the proposed comprehensive security audit and a few proposals, which were already being implemented at Tirumala.

The DIG said the security audit was intended to enhance the overall security setup at the Tirumala temple, especially in view of the recent terror strikes in Pahalgam. The objective was to further strengthen security arrangements at the Tirumala temple, she said.

Tirupati Urban SP and TTD CVSO In-charge Harshavardhan Raju explained in detail through a power point presentation, the various proposals made during the earlier Security Audit that took place in May 2023.

He also briefed about the changes, which were being contemplated in view of the recent incidents to ensure the safety and security of Tirumala temple and its environs. There was a need to bring all the security agencies including APSP, DAR, SPF, HGs, Civil Police and TTD security under one umbrella by developing separate SOP for each working agency.

All the Access Control Teams, including the private security needs to be trained. Security in outer cordon, especially in the 14 entry points to Seshachala forests including Talakona, Mamandur, Tumburu Theertham, Mangalam routes needs to be beefed up, he stressed.
