Tummala directs officials to complete NSP canal repairs speedily

Khammam: Irrigation officials were yet to complete repair works of breached NSP canal. As a result , paddy fields in large areas were facing the threat of drying up.
Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao inspected ongoing repairs works at Mallaigudem in Kusumanchi mandal in the district on Monday and took stock of the situation. He directed the officials carry out works on a war footing basis and to release water to save the crops.
The minister expressed anger over the lack of coordination between the officials in executing the canal repair works. He apprised Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy and irrigation secretary Rahul Bojja about the slow pace of repair works.
Farmers were worried about the delay in the works and all officers should work with coordination, Nageswara Rao said and warned that action would be taken against the officials if such incidents were repeated
Farm fields in Wyra, Kallur, Sathupalli and Penuballi areas could be damaged if NSP water was not released in time. The repair works have to be completed by Tuesday morning to release the water, the minister added.
