Fashion house Gucci seems to have put its foot in it, by trying to sell a dress that looks very similar to an Indian kurta. What’s the rub? Well, the kurta described on the website as a ‘organic linen kaftan’ is priced at a whopping Rs 2.5 lakh. The kaftan has floral embroidery and a tassle around the neck.
No sooner did Twitterati come to know about this, they made sure to make their thoughts known about the unheard of price for an outfit that could easily be bought for a few hundreds in India.
From labelling the design as cultural appropriation, the poor styling, car for similar prices to citing other local retailers where the same kurta could be bought for Rs 200 or so, Tweeple’s reaction are sure to make fashion houses think again before posting next time.
