Hyderabad: Twelve international passengers from at-risk and non-at-risk countries who arrived at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport here tested positive for the Omicron variant, Director of Public Health Dr G Srinivasa Rao said on Saturday.
With this, the total number of international passengers who arrived at RGIA and tested positive for the Omicron variant has gone up to 21, which includes the 7-year-old child, who along with his family members, took an onward flight to Kolkata.
Out of the 12 passengers who tested positive for the variant on Saturday, two were from at-risk countries while 10 were from non-at-risk countries.
On Saturday, a total of 315 international passengers arrived at RGIA and them of them tested RT-PCR positive. The surveillance teams of the health department have collected blood samples of the positive passengers and have sent them for full genome sequencing to CCMB and CDFD.
Overall, since December 1, the health authorities in Hyderabad have screened and conducted RT-PCR tests on 7206 international passengers out of which 21 travelers have tested positive for the Omicron variant. Senior health officials have said that all out efforts have been launched to locate the close contacts of all the 12 international passengers who tested positive for Omicron on Saturday.
Out of the 12 cases, nine were of foreign origin and three were of Indian origin. The cases were from Kenya (6), Somalia (2), UAE (2), Ghana (1) and Tanzania (1).
