Kothagudem: Two sniffer dogs (Belgian Malinois breed) Shiny and Lyca trained in explosive detection have been inducted into the district police force.
The canines were assigned to the district after completing basic training at Integrated Intelligence Training Academy (IITA) in Moinabad for eight months after passing out parade of the 25th batch of canines and canine handlers a couple of days ago in Hyderabad.
Superintendent of Police B Rohith Raju interacted with the armed reserve constable Lal Singh, who is handling police dog Shiny and K Muthaiah, who is handling Lyca at his office here on Thursday and greeted the canines.
He said that it was a pleasure that these two dogs, which have been specially trained in detecting explosives, have come to serve in the district police department and made several suggestions to their handlers.
The SP asked the officials for complete details regarding the 12 police dogs currently working in the district police department. He advised them to take precautions from time to time to ensure that no problems arise in the care and accommodation arrangements of the dogs.
At present the district police have eight sniffer dogs meant for explosive detection, two tracking dogs for narcotics detection and two trackers for crime detection. SB Inspector Srinivas, RI (Admin) Lal Babu, MTO Sudhakar and others accompanied the SP.
It might be noted that Belgian Malinois, an exceptional dog breed, stands out due to its exceptional sense of smell, high intelligence and natural tendency to guard its family. They have been preferred canines for police and military forces worldwide.
