Kumram Bheem Asifabad: Two persons were booked for allegedly growing ganja as an intercrop in their red gram field at Govena village in Tiryani mandal on Sunday.
Tiryani Sub-Inspector P Rama Rao said that the accused were Mucchiveni Bheemaiah, a resident of Naikapuguda, a hamlet under Govena and Abdullah of Jainoor mandal.
Bheemaiah was found to be growing 30 ganja plants in his field, when police conducted raids on cotton and red gram crops in the village as part of a drive to clamp down the menace. Abdullah confessed to purchasing the contraband substance from Bheemaiah. A case was booked against the two. Investigation is underway and stringent action would be taken against growers of the ganja, Rama Rao warned.
In the meantime, Indervelli police destroyed 14 ganja plants secretly grown in a cotton field at Dharmasagar, a hamlet of Indervelli mandal. A case was booked against Savle Baddu Singh and Savle Ramesh, residents of Dharmasagar. The two were handed to the Prohibition and Excise department for further action.
