Hyderabad: Two people were duped by cyber fraudsters in separate cases in the city. In one case, a job aspirant, Shravan Kumar of Jubilee Hills, was duped of Rs 2 lakh by a woman who collected the money on the pretext of arranging a job in the Income Tax Department.
According to Hyderabad Cybercrime officials, Shravan Kumar got a phone call from one Swetha Reddy, saying she would help him get a job in the IT Department. He had emailed his documents to her, after which she cited various reasons and tricked him into sending her Rs 2 lakh. He approached the police after realising he was duped.
In the second case, one Sampath Kumar was duped by a woman who befriended him on Facebook. The woman introduced herself as Mariya James working with a UK-based charity group in the UK. She told Sampath that she would be sending him 70,000 pounds for distribution among poor people in India. A few days later she called and said a parcel with the cash was dispatched.
“Later, another woman called him saying she was from the Customs and on the pretext of various taxes to release the cash parcel, made him transfer Rs 3.4 lakh,” said KVM Prasad, ACP (Cybercrime). The police have booked a case and are investigating.
