Visakhapatnam: Two persons were arrested here on Monday in connection with fraud using Aadhaar and PAN card numbers of the gullible.

According to police, four persons–Korivi Jagannadham, Janakirami Reddy, Bandiyya and Koviri Nani of Rambilli Mandal in the district, targeted residents in slums who had Aadhaar and PAN cards. They offered Rs 200 for Aadhaar card copy and Rs 500 for PAN card copy promising implementation of government welfare schemes. But in reality, they used the numbers for the sale of SIM cards through Nani, who is running a mobile phone shop in Kothapatnam and distributed SIM cards.

Nani, who wanted to make easy quick money, sold the SIM for higher rates to persons indulging in online rummy.

When the news that money is paid for Aadhaar and PAN numbers was broken, some persons, who smelt a rat, complained to police by dialing 100 service. When the policemen reached the scene, three of the culprits escaped. Police took Jagannadham into custody. On the information provided by him, Janakirami Reddy was arrested. Police are on the lookout for the other two.
