Hyderabad: The Vanasthalipuram Police have arrested two persons for allegedly robbing an intoxicated man of Rs 1,000 and his mobile phone before bludgeoning him to death with a stone.
The murder, reported on July 12, was cracked with the help of CCTV footage.
The suspects were identified as Sriramulu, a rowdy-sheeter, and his friend Narasimha, a hearing and speech-impaired man, both residents of Auto Nagar in Vanasthalipuram.
According to police, Sriramulu had consumed toddy at a toddy compound near Sushma on Saturday night before meeting Narasimha at a nearby wine shop. They noticed an intoxicated man and followed him until he fell asleep near a petrol bunk.
The duo allegedly stole Rs 1,000 and the victim’s mobile phone. When the man woke up and confronted them, an argument broke out. “Fearing he would raise an alarm, the suspects allegedly hit him on the head with a stone and fled. The victim died of his injuries,” police said.
Police have identified and nabbed the suspects after examining the footage from surveillance cameras. Further investigation is underway.
