Hyderabad: The Jubilee Hills police arrested two persons on charges of conspiring and misappropriating amounts sanctioned under the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF), cheating the government and poor beneficiaries.
The arrested persons were Jogula Naresh Kumar from Mettuguda and B Venkatesh, an office subordinate at the MPDO office in Nalgonda. K Vamshi from Khammam and P Omkar from Peddapalli district are absconding.
According to the police, Naresh Kumar, the prime suspect, had misused his access to CMRF cheques while working at an ex-minister’s office earlier. He unlawfully took possession of 230 sanctioned but undistributed cheques. Police said Naresh identified 19 cheques that had been issued to applicants but were not followed up.
With the help of his aides, Naresh then deposited them into various bank accounts in Jubilee Hills with similar names, using forged details. The total amount misappropriated is estimated to be around Rs 8.7 lakh.
Following a complaint from bank officials, the Jubilee Hills police booked a case and arrested them. Efforts are on to nab the absconding persons.
