Hyderabad: The Shamshabad Police Special Operations Team nabbed two persons on charges of illegally transporting spurious cotton seeds at Tondupally toll plaza on the city outskirts here late on Monday. The vehicle was coming from Nandyal in Kurnool to Medchal, police said. Officials seized 56 bags of cotton seeds and the truck.
The arrested persons were T.Madhu (23) and Shiva Keshava Reddy (39), both farm workers from Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh. Two suspects, Pavan, a seed receiver from Hyderabad and Madhu Sudan Reddy, a seed supplier from Kurnool, were absconding.
Police said Madhu Sudhan Reddy procured the BG-II spurious cotton seeds in Nandyal and was sending it to Pavan in Sananthnagar for packing and labeling under different brand names. Following a tip-off, the SOT intercepted the truck at the toll plaza and nabbed the duo.
