Two killed, five injured as Tirupati pilgrimage turns tragic for Medchal residents

Two persons, including a father and his young daughter from Medchal, died while five others sustained serious injuries in a road accident on the Outer Ring Road near Tellapur on Saturday night.

Medchal: A pilgrimage to Tirupati turned tragic for two families when two persons died and five others suffered serious injuries in a road accident on the Outer Ring Road on Saturday night. The mishap occurred near Pati village in Tellapur municipality, close to Exit No. 2.

The victims were identified as Neela Srisailam, 40, and his eight-year-old daughter Subiksha, residents of Medchal. According to the police, Srisailam’s family, along with his friend Tirupathi’s family, was travelling to Tirumala when their car rammed into a lorry moving ahead of them in the first two lanes.

Police said the lorry driver was driving at below 80 kmph in the lanes where the speed limit permitted 80 kmph and above, and the car occupants were unaware of the slow-moving vehicle, resulting in the fatal collision.

Five others sustained serious injuries. The injured were identified as Srisailam’s wife Lakshmi, Tirupathi, his wife Jyothi, and their daughters Sashika and Duvika. They were shifted to a private hospital in RC Puram, while the bodies were sent to the government hospital in Patancheru.

The BDL-Bhanur police have registered a case.
