Alampur: Tragedy struck a family when their car rammed into a stationary truck on National Highway 44 near Kodandapur village in Jogulamba Gadwal district on Friday morning, police said.

The truck which developed some mechanical problem was parked on the highway connecting Kurnool and Hyderabad. The ill-fated Kia car was also on its way from Kurnool to Hyderabad and rammed into the parked truck from behind.

There were four passengers in the car – Venkata Babji, his wife Sravani, daughters Sai Charitra and Lakshmi. The impact was so powerful that Sravani and Sai Charitra died on the spot while the other two were critically injured.

They were rushed to a government hospital. The victim family reportedly hailed from Hyderabad. Investigations are in progress.

Meanwhile, in yet another incident in the neighbouring Narayanpet district, a two-wheeler G Anjappa was run over by a speeding truck transporting sand near Gollapally cross roads in the early hours of Friday. The victim belonged to Manthan Goud village of Makhtal mandal. Villagers alleged that the sand laden truck was being illegally operated and was being driven rashly leading to the accident.
