Two Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists arrested in UP
Preliminary investigation revealed that the two finalised the plan of planting an IED in a moving train in February to cause casualties and extensive damage to property.
Hyderabad: Two key conspirators – Mohammed Salim Ahmed alias Haji Salim and Kafil alias Kafeel wanted in the low-intensity parcel bomb on the platform one at Darbhanga railway station, were arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Uttar Pradesh on Friday.
Both Salim and Kafil are associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). Preliminary investigation revealed that the two finalised the plan of planting an IED in a moving train in February to cause casualties and extensive damage to property.
The entire plan was finalized at Salim’s residence, an NIA spokesperson said in a press release. The NIA had arrested two LeT terrorists Mohammed Nasir Khan and his brother Imran Malik in New Mallepally in Hyderabad on June 30 in the same blast case.
The spokesperson said Salim was a close associate of Pakistan-based LeT operative Iqbal Kana and was acting as a key intermediary between Nasir and Imran. He was also involved in channeling funds sent by Iqbal Kana that were used in executing the terror act.
Salim and Kafil would be produced before the special court for NIA cases in Patna after obtaining transit remand from a competent court in UP. Further investigation to unearth the complete conspiracy was on, the spokesperson said.
On Thursday, the NIA conducted searches at the residence of Nasir Khan and Imran Malik in New Mallepally under the Habeebnagar police station limits. The searches led to recovery of various incriminating material and multiple digital devices. The items recovered from the premises of the accused contained various documents pertaining to procedure for fabrication of improvised explosive device (IED) and materials used for making it.
