Kumram Bheem Asifabad: Two persons belonging to Peddapalli district were arrested for allegedly trading banned spurious seeds in Kumram Bheem Asifabad and Mancherial districts. As many as 850 kg of seeds worth Rs 17 lakh were recovered from their possession.

Speaking to mediapersons at Kaghaznagar on Friday, in-charge Superintendent of Police V Satyanarayana said that the accused were identified as Pittala Srinivas and Bandi Sridhar, residents Ellayyapalli village in Odela mandal of Peddapalli district. They were detained when moving suspiciously during a vehicle check held jointly by the officials of the agriculture and police departments at PP Rao Colony in Dahegaon mandal on Thursday.

During the subsequent interrogations, the duo confessed to committing the offence to earn easy money. They admitted that they were trading the prohibited seeds for quite a long time. They revealed that they were procuring the seeds from Andhra Pradesh and transporting them using a paddy harvesting machinery with the help of one Sai.

The offenders disclosed that they packed the seeds at Ellayyapalli and sold the same to gullible farmers of Dahegaon, Kannepalli and Bheemini, stating they would get high yield. They were duping the growers of cotton crop promising that the seeds were manufactured by a popular brand, Satyanarayana stated, and requested farmers not to fall prey to such traders.
