Two women aged above 80 win sarpanch posts in Peddapalli

Two women, both above 80, won sarpanch posts in Manthani mandal. Kasipeta Venkatamma won Uppatla with 501 votes against Badikela Swarupa’s 260, while Godari Laxmi secured the Siripuram seat in the gram panchayat elections on Thursday.

Peddapalli: Two women aged above 80 years won sarpanch posts in Manthani mandal in the gram panchayat elections held on Thursday.

Kasipeta Venkatamma was elected from Uppatla, while Godari Laxmi won the Siripuram sarpanch seat.


The Uppatla sarpanch post was reserved for the general women category. Venkatamma, who belongs to the Scheduled Caste community, contested in the general women category and won the post with a majority of 241 votes over her nearest rival, Badikela Swarupa.

Venkatamma secured 501 votes and Swarupa polled 260.
