Hyderabad: Two women died and two others were critically injured after a boat capsized at Sarpanpally lake in Vikarabad on Saturday. The victims have been identified as Ritika (44) and Poonam (50). Four members of a family hailing from Bihar had visited a private resort near the lake.

Later, they booked a boat ride. While enjoying the boat ride, the vessel suddenly capsized, resulting in the drowning of two women. Hearing their screams, locals rushed to the rescue and managed to save two others but their condition is stated to be critical.

The family was staying in Madhapur locality, Hyderabad.

In a video  circulating on social media, one of the relatives of the victims is seen explaining that the incident occurred around 6 p.m.

There were three adults and two children in the boat. When it had ventured about 300 metres into the lake, the instructor asked the boat operators to return after noticing clouds and the possibility of rain.

However, as the boat was turning back, it capsized, throwing the two women into the lake. Although CPR was performed and they were rushed to a hospital, the women could not be saved, the relative said.

“The boat operator swam to safety leaving our family members. We dived into the lake and tried to rescue them. There was no help from the resort management and there were no sufficient safety measures as well,” the person said.
