Udumpur forest range officer booked for abusing tribal farmer in Nirmal

A forest range officer in Nirmal district has been booked under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act for allegedly abusing a tribal farmer. Police also registered a separate case against 17 tribals for attacking the officer’s office, damaging property, and confining staff.

Nirmal: A forest range officer, Srinivas Reddy, was booked on charges of abusing a tribal farmer at Udumpur village in Kadem mandal, on Thursday.

Police said that a case was registered against Udumpur FRO Gantala Srinivas Reddy under relevant sections of SC, ST (Prevention of Atrocities Act) Act, on charges of abusing Banavath Reddy Naik after the farmer attempted to meet the officer. Naik lodged a complaint against the FRO on August 1. Police conducted a preliminary inquiry and booked a case against Srinivas.

Meanwhile, a case was registered against 17 tribals on charges of attacking the Udumpur FRO’s office including based on a complaint received from Srinivas Reddy. They were alleged to have thrown stones, damaged windows of the office and confined the staff by locking the office on August 1.

The case was registered against the tribals under the Section 132 (assault against a public servant), 127 (wrongful confinement), 324 (3) damage of public property and other sections of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhitha. Investigations have been taken up.
