Karimnagar: UGC autonomous committee will visit Sri Raja Rajeshwara (SRR) Government Arts and Science College here for two days on Tuesday and Wednesday, to inspect various aspects to provide autonomous status to the college. Committee Chairman Prof K Bairappa (Karnataka), members Prof Omkarnath Upadhyay (Lucknow), Dr R Prabhakar (Chennai), and Dr P Bala Bhaskar (government nominee), Satavahana University Registrar Dr M Varaprasad and coordinating officer Dr Saleem S will inspect the college.
During their visit, they will examine various aspects such as quality of education, the strength of teaching and non-teaching staff, infrastructure, research, sports infrastructure, cultural activities and others. SRR College, one of the famous colleges in the State, will get the autonomous status if all goes well. The institution which already has NAAC ‘A’ grade will be the first autonomous college under Satavahana University limits if it gets autonomous status.
The college, which started in the year 1956, has produced a number of eminent personalities. Though a number of government and private colleges are suffering from a shortfall of strength, this college is continuing its legacy with 4,500 degree and 800 post-graduation students. While 24 lecturers hold PhD degrees, eleven faculty members finished M.Phil. Faculty members from the college presented 1,044 research papers in national and international seminars. Research papers were also published in various magazines.
Speaking to Telangana Today, College Principal Dr K Ramakrishna expressed confidence that the college would be granted autonomous status. Informing that they have made all arrangements, he said that the college was eligible for autonomous status since it was leading by example in various fields including quality of education, research, NSS activities, sports, cultural activities and others.
