Khammam: Priyadarshini Institute of Science and Technology for Women (PITW) in Khammam has been granted autonomous status by UGC effective from the 2026–27 academic year, informed the college chairman Dr Katepalli Naveen Babu.

Attaining autonomous status was a matter of great pride for their college, which was established with the specific objective of providing quality technical education to female students from rural backgrounds.

He noted that, with autonomous status, the college would implement modern curricula and training programmes tailored to meet industry requirements, thereby enhancing skills of students. The achievement marks yet another significant step forward toward women’s empowerment.

The college principal Dr B Gopal said the autonomous status provides an opportunity to elevate academic standards. Steps would be taken for holistic development of students by designing new syllabi, fostering research, and organising internships, placements and hackathons.

Gaining autonomous status was made possible solely through the unwavering commitment the faculty members, hard work and personal attention they dedicated to students. Empowerment of female students and boosting their leadership skills remains the foundational objective of the institution, he said.

The college Academic Director Atluri Venkataramana expressing delight over attaining autonomous status noted that it helps to deliver an even higher quality of education to the students. Making students industry ready with strong practical knowledge would be given priority, he added.
