Hyderabad: In view of growing threat of cyberattacks and digital arrests, the University Grants Commission (UGC) launched a handbook on the basics of cyber hygiene for the higher education institutions in the country.

The handbook, developed by a committee of experts in cybersecurity, aims to promote the development of good cyber hygiene habits and address the new normal for cybersecurity.

It covers a wide range of topics, including basics of cyber hygiene, identifying common cyber threats, developing a cybersecurity policy for HEIs, implementing security controls, responding to cyberattacks and strengthening institutional cybersecurity capabilities.

“This handbook aims to equip higher education institutions with the latest information on topics such as deep fake, new criminal laws, procedures for uploading documents to DigiLocker, and digital arrest,” UGC Chairman, Prof. M Jagadesh Kumar said on Wednesday.

The book encourages colleges to use sophisticated technologies and techniques to protect their assets and make their faculties and students digitally empowered and secure. It also includes a number of case studies and examples to illustrate the importance of cyber hygiene.

“The UGC is committed to supporting higher education institutions in their efforts to improve their cybersecurity by providing resources and training opportunities,” Prof. Kumar added.

The handbook is available for download via the link https://www.ugc.gov.in/publication/ebook
