Hyderabad: Every month, around 6,000 Muslims from Telangana embark on Umrah pilgrimage and the figure multiplies during the pious month of Ramzan.

There are around a dozen reputed travel agencies in the city who offer various ‘Umrah pilgrimage packages’ and charge between Rs 80,000 to Rs 1.30 lakh per person for a trip of a duration of 14 days.

“Prices are higher during the Rabi-ul-Awal month and the Ramzan due to demand. The prices also depend on the mode of transport and accommodation,” said president of Hajj and Umrah Group Organisers Association, Mohd Abdul Razaq Samad.

Unlike before, where only elderly people preferred to embark on the pilgrimage, families including children are heading for the Umrah pilgrimage. “A tour operator accompanies every group of pilgrims and guides them in the pilgrimage,” said Mohd Yaseen, a tour operator.
