Kothagudem: A young has allegedly died by suicide after his reported failure to pay traffic challan issued to him for multiple traffic violations as well as a drunk and drive case.

The deceased, Iruku Gopi of Mudigonda in Khammam district fell in love with a woman Kerthy of Mudigonda and married her by convincing the elders. After marriage, Gopi was living in Kothagudem along with his wife, who was studying B Sc. (Nursing) in a college here and he worked in a local sweet shop.

On June 16 traffic police registered a case against Gopi, who was caught in a drunk and drive check. When police asked him to pay the fine and appear before the court he said he would appear before the court after dropping his wife at the college. But he did not appear before the magistrate.

The police warned him that he should appear before the magistrate immediately or he would be arrested. Gopi called his family members and asked for money but he could not get the money.

Fearing that he would be arrested he hanged himself with his wife’s chunni at the rented house at Barli pit area on Friday.

Gopi’s relatives alleged that police harassment was the reason for his death and the police denied the allegations. His wife Keerthy lodged a complaint with the one-town police stating that her husband died because of harassment by police.
