Mancherial: Unidentified persons blasted the surplus weir (matthadi) of an irrigation tank, locally known as Shanigakunta, using detonators in Chennur on Monday. Officials of the irrigation department lodged a complaint with police on Tuesday.
In a statement, the officials said that unidentified persons blew up the surplus weir using explosives, causing draining of water from the tank. They repaired the weir by placing sand bags. They lodged a complaint with police, who in turn registered a case and took up investigations.
Meanwhile, locals alleged that some Congress leaders intentionally exploded the surplus weir of the tank in order to occupy land of the water body. While the State government was trying to protect irrigation tanks by removing encroachers, certain leaders of the Congress blasted the tank with an intention to occupy the land, a local commented.
