Two daily-wage workers, Kailash (32) and Koteshwar (48), drowned in an irrigation tank at Mahalaxmi Double-bed Room Colony in Nirmal while reportedly intoxicated. Police recovered both bodies, registered a case, and have launched an investigation into the incident
Despite villagers notifying the irrigation officials about a minor breach a week ago, they did not respond promptly. The villagers attempted to repair the breach using their own funds, but it eventually developed into a major breach, causing all the water to flow downstream.

They said that they would lose their livelihood if the tank was encroached upon by some persons, who they alleged had registered the land on their names.
