Hyderabad: The University of Hyderabad Students Union, which is fighting against university land auction by the State government, strongly condemned Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s statement in the Assembly on Wednesday.

In a statement, the Union said the Chief Minister’s remark that “there are no deer, no tigers, only ‘cunning foxes’ who want to hinder the State development” was a blatant attempt to demonise a legitimate protest led by the university stakeholders and civil society.

“It is shameful that the Chief Minister has resorted to such rhetoric instead of addressing the concerns raised by students, faculty and researchers,” the union said.

The government decision to auction 400 acres of university land to private corporations not only undermines the purpose for which the land was allocated to the university but also threatens its rich biodiversity and academic environment, it said.
