Nirmal/Mancherial: Standing crops of maize, and sesame and mango orchards were damaged by unseasonal rains in several parts of both Nirmal and Mancherial districts on Monday night, causing losses to farmers.
Maize and sesame crops raised in Bhainsa, Kubheer, Sarangapur, Thanur, Mudhole, Pembi and Kuntala mandals were flattened following the rains coupled with strong gales.
Growers of these crops regretted that the untimely rains wrecked havoc for the farmers. They requested the government to carry out a survey of crop damage at the earliest and to extend compensation.
Meanwhile, mango trees that reached the fruiting stage were affected by the unwanted rains in Nennal, Bheemaram, Chennur, Jaipur, Bellampalli, Mandamarri, Kannepalli and Thandur mandals of Mancherial district.
The mango farmers lamented that they were expecting profits considering the fruits, but the rains damaged the trees resulting in dip in yield.
