Kothagudem: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) candidates contesting in municipal elections in the district have been facing a strange situation as the party has not given them B-forms to nominate them as the party candidates while there has been some confusing political alliances based on the local needs.
The TDP contestants have reached an agreement with the Communist Party of India (CPI) in Kothagudem to contest in the polls as the CPI allotted three divisions in Kothagudem Municipal Corporation as part of the agreement.
CPI district secretary Shaik Sabeer Pasha said that as the TDP candidates did not get B-forms from their party, the CPI had given them B-forms in view of their support to the party and cadres of both the parties would work for their victory.
Similarly, in Aswaraopet Municipality a TDP leader Narlapati Srinivas Rao is contesting on a BRS symbol in the 19th ward as the party has not given him a B-form. In Aswaraopet, the TDP is supporting the BRS while it is working with the Congress in Madhira.
The CPI (M) which is supporting the CPI in the Kothagudem Municipal Corporation is with BRS in all municipalities in Khammam. On the other hand, the CPI is supporting the BRS in Madhira while the BRS has received support from CPI, CPI (M) and CPI (ML) Massline in Yellandu.
In an interesting development in Wyra Municipality, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka’s follower, former DCC president Puvvalla Durgaprasad’s wife Indumathi, who was in the race for municipal chairperson post, withdrew her nomination after a day-long drama on Tuesday. Her withdrawal paved the way for Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy’s follower, Borra Rajashekar’s wife Borra Umadevi to stay in the race for the municipal chairperson post along with two others R Rajyalakshmi and K Chandrakala.
All the mainstream parties have been facing the threat of rebel candidates in both Khammam and Kothagudem districts. In Kothagudem Municipal Corporation, as many as 354 candidates are contesting for 60 divisions with 89 independent candidates in the fray.
In Edulapuram Municipality, 109 candidates are contesting for 31 municipal wards while Congress candidate Tammineni Mangathai is getting elected unanimously from the 15th ward.
